KANCHANABURI: Sangkhlaburi district is planning a major repair of the Mon Bridge after heavy rain damaged parts of the structure. The work is expected to cost 40-50 million baht.
Officials inspected Uttamanusorn Bridge, also known as the Mon Bridge, on Friday after days of heavy rain raised water levels and pushed tree branches and other debris against the bridge.
Sanharat Sombatthong, a civil engineer at the Kanchanaburi Public Works and Town & Country Planning Office, found three areas needing urgent repairs.
These sections cross deep water and have long gaps between supports, which could make the bridge move or sway, he said.
He said the bridge was still safe for visitors but recommended limiting the number of people on it and avoiding five areas marked with cones.
Urgent repairs will address the dangerous sections, while a full repair is planned, he said.
