9 July 2019

A BTS Green Line trial run on Mor Chit-Saphan Mai-Khu Khot route in Bangkok’s northern suburbs has been conducted from Mor Chit station to Lad Phrao intersection station. The new service starts on August 11.

With the cooperation of the BTS, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Krungthep Thanakom Co., the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand undertook the trial run over a two-kilometer distance from Mor Chit station to Lad Phrao intersection. The new BTS section which is scheduled to open for service in August is designed to alleviate overcrowding of commuters at Mor Chit station.

Deputy MRTA Governor Surachet Laophulsuk, said today’s trial run went very smoothly. Similar trial runs will be conducted daily for a month. The northern Green Line is designed to transport a growing number of passengers between Bangkok’s northern suburbs and inner areas on the BTS system.

Lad Phrao intersection is a major spot where many commuters converge to Take BTS trips daily. About 80,000 BTS passengers are expected each day. Four more stations will open along the route from Mor Chit station to Kaset intersection by the end of this year. The northern route will be extended to Khu Khot station by the end of next year.
