Lizhong Wheel Group to build S$21.7m plant in Thailand

SINGAPORE: Mainboard-listed Lizhong Wheel Group has extended its reach overseas with a S$21.7 million plant in Thailand.

It has also established a subsidiary called New Thai Wheel Manufacturing to develop, manufacture and sell aluminium alloy wheels and its related parts from Thailand.

The firm has acquired a 57,000 square metre piece of land in the Thailand-China Rayong Industrial Park and will commence construction of the new plant in the last quarter of 2010.

Once completed in 2011, the plant will boast an annual production capacity of one million wheels per year.

This will boost the group’s total annual production capacity to 9.7 million wheels, across its five production bases.

Lizhong Wheel’s executive chairman Zang Ligen said Thailand was the natural choice to set up the firm’s first overseas manufacturing plant.

By setting up a manufacturing facility outside of China, he said the firm would also be better positioned to offer its products to customers in other growing automotive markets in the region and beyond.
