Construction of Hua Hin’s new railway station underway to accommodate new dual-track rail

At the moment there’s just an unsightly sunken construction site with the start of the foundations visible alongside the remains of demolished street stalls, but construction of Hua Hin’s new railway station to accommodate the new dual-track rail is underway.

The site is between sections of elevated concrete overpasses now becoming a frequent addition to the Hua Hin streetscape.

As the Royal Coast Review report in August last year, the new railway station site is several hundred metres south of the existing historic station, near Soi 80.

The much-loved Hua Hin Railway Station, perhaps the city’s most popular photographic opportunity, is destined to go into ‘seme-retirement within a revamped museum and tourist attraction precinct but also to welcome some ‘special’ tour trains and important occasions.

The classic No.305 steam locomotive will be returned from its current temporary position to be part of a redeveloped precinct to include the original station buildings, access roundabout, train library, shrines and royal monuments.

And in answer to the most-asked question about the future of region rail; NO, a ‘high-speed or ‘bullet train’ is off the drawing boards and not coming anytime soon!
