Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) motorway work nearing full completion
The Department of Highways is accelerating construction of the Bang Pa-in–Nakhon Ratchasima motorway, with civil works now more than 99% complete and the final two construction sections expected to be finished this year.
The work is paving the way for a full-route trial opening in 2026 and full commercial operations in 2027.
Piyapong Jiwattanakulphaisal, director-general of the Department of Highways, said progress on Motorway No. 6, which stretches 196km from Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima, had reached 99.1% for civil works as of February 2026, while system installation stood at 89.1%. Of the project’s 40 construction sections, 38 are completed, leaving only two remaining sections now under accelerated construction in Ayutthaya, Saraburi and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.
One of the remaining sections is Section 4, covering kilometre markers 9–15 in Wang Noi district of Ayutthaya. Work is currently focused on eight bridges, including two on the main motorway alignment near a water reservoir on the left side of the route, where bridge girders are being installed ahead of deck and railing construction.
The other unfinished section is Section 21, covering kilometre markers 82–86 across Muak Lek district in Saraburi and Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima. The segment is being built as a six-lane, special-standard roadway. Both sections are expected to be completed within 2026.
System works along the route are also progressing steadily. Construction of control buildings, government service facilities, operation and maintenance buildings, and safety installations at all nine toll plazas has reached 99.8%. The nine toll gates are located at Bang Pa-in, Wang Noi, Hin Kong, Saraburi, Kaeng Khoi, Muak Lek, Pak Chong, Sikhiu and Kham Thale Sor.
The route’s electrical power supply system is 85% complete, while the intelligent transport systems, which will handle traffic control and management, are 92% complete.
