Vietnam launches and inaugurates 234 projects nationwide

Vietnam today simultaneously held groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies for 234 major projects across the country to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, deputy prime ministers, ministers and local leaders attended the ceremonies at 34 provinces and cities. All events were held concurrently at 9 am on December 19.

According to the Ministry of Construction, provinces and cities will break ground on 148 projects and inaugurate 86 others, including 38 projects led by ministries and agencies, 39 by corporations and general companies, and 157 by local authorities.

The total investment for these projects is more than VND 3.4 quadrillion (approximately USD 130 billion), of which state budget funding for 96 projects amounts to more than VND 627 trillion (nearly USD 24 billion), or 18 per cent, and other capital sources for the rest 138 projects.

The project covers more than 9,171 hectares with an estimated population of about 751,000 and a total investment of around VND 925.65 trillion (approximately USD 35 billion). It is expected to be completed in 2035.

In Hanoi, one of the key projects inaugurated today is the Olympic Sports Urban Complex in Thuong Phuc Commune. PM Pham Minh Chinh and Hanoi Party Secretary Nguyen Duy Ngoc attended the event.

Also in Hanoi, construction began on the Red River Boulevard project, covering approximately 11,000 ha with a total investment of around VND 855 trillion (over USD 32 billion), scheduled for completion in 2030.

In Ho Chi Minh City, one of the projects underway is the city’s Youth Cultural House in Saigon Ward, led by the city’s Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board.

Lao Cai province will start work on Component 1 of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong railway investment project, with the Ministry of Construction as the investor.

In Dong Nai province, authorities held inauguration ceremonies for multiple facilities and marked the first commercial flight at Long Thanh International Airport.
