Thailand’s Bang Pakong Combined Cycle (Units 1-2 Replacement) Power Project achieves milestones

Congratulations to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand’s Bang Pakong Combined Cycle (Units 1-2 Replacement) Power Project team for achieving two important milestones in recent months, despite varying challenges brought about by COVID-19 restrictions.

In April, the project met the milestone for back energization of Unit 1. The back-energization milestone marks the start of plant commissioning by energizing the main electrical systems of the plant.

This month, river water was introduced into the newly-constructed reservoir. The reservoir draws water from the Bang Pakong river to supply the cooling water for the plant.

Black & Veatch is the technical leader on a consortium of Sumitomo Corporation (SC) and Italian Thai Development Company Limited (ITD) that will deliver two single shaft combined cycle trains of approximately 704 megawatts each using General Electric’s 9HA.02 advanced class turbine technology.

The net capacity of the project is 1408MW.
