BANGKOK, October 27, 2014 – Thailand will expand the country’s main Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Phuket Airport as part of the government’s new development plans to prepare for the Asean Economic Community (AEC), Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

“The expansion of the two airports would help boost national competitiveness in terms of transport connectivity with other countries in the region,” said Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha.

Expansion of Suvarnabhumi or Bangkok International Airport will begin next year and covers terminals, aircraft bays and parking buildings.

Construction of 15 additional aircraft bays and new terminals at Phuket International Airport is also due to begin in 2015.
