Thailand should press ahead spending 70 billion baht to upgrade provincial airports, says former minister

Former deputy transport minister Thaworn Senneam said he was proud of his work under transport minister Saksayam Chidchob especially when it came to working with the Department of Airports to develop provincial airports.

The Songkhla MP said that 70 billion baht had been assigned to develop 29 airports between 2018 and 2027.

Work had already begun at airports in Betong, Narathiwas, Trang, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Krabi, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Hua Hin and Mae Sot utilizing 14.6 billion baht.

But more was on the way to create regional hubs that would connect to the outside world and other places in Thailand.

He said that airports in the provinces were on their way to being “Smart Airports” that would benefit people in the provinces by improving connectivity.

He hoped this would continue as it was money well spent.

He compared the 70 billion baht to the 120 billion being spent on just one train line in Bangkok – the Orange Line.
