Sarens wins logistics contract for 1200MW Quang Trach 1 thermal power plant in Vietnam
Transportation services company Sarens has won a contract for all logistical manoeuvring for the Quang Trach 1 thermal power project in Vietnam.
The 1200MW Quang Trach 1 project will generate up to 8.4 billion kWh per year when commissioned in 2025.
The 48.6-hectare project is part of the Quang Trach power complex, which will also house the 1.2GW Quang Trach 2 coal-fired power plant with two ultra-supercritical coal units of 600MW each.
Vietnam’s state-owned Vietnam Electricity (EVN) is responsible for developing the project, with an estimated investment of $1.78 billion.
The project will also be executed by the consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation, Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Construction Corporation No. 1.
The Quang Trach 1 marine infrastructure will include a coal import port and a 1.27 km-long breakwater. The coal import port will consist of two berths with a capacity of 100,000 deadweight tonnes.
An approach bridge will be built with reinforced concrete girders and pedestals 2m high and 5.5m wide.
Sarens, selected as the main crane contractor, will use its Demag CC6800 crane model with a lifting capacity of 1250T, the Demag CC1500 crane model with a lifting power of 300T and several smaller cranes, to ensure the execution of the project.
Sarens will collaborate with Lilama 18 to carry out the works leveraging its fleet which includes two telescopic cranes with a lifting capacity of 60T each.
Sarens has experience in the construction sector in Vietnam, especially in the development of energy projects. It has worked with Trung Nam in the installation of 1200MW of wind turbines, in sites such as the Trung Nam Wind Farm Phase 2 and with Siemens Gamesa to transport and install twelve G114-2.6MW wind turbines in the Dam Nai II Wind Farm.
