Germany energy firm wpd plans $180 mln wind power project in central Vietnam
Germany’s energy company wpd plans to invest VND4,600 billion ($181.62 million) in building a 143 MW wind power plant in Vietnam’s central coastal province of Binh Dinh.
Hans-Christoph Brumberg, managing director and general manager Asia of wpd, made the statement at a Thursday meeting with Binh Dinh authorities. The firm aims to make the investment in Vinh Thanh district, he added.

As wpd is interested in investing in Vietnam thanks to the country’s green growth strategy, the firm has been studying the wind power prospects in provinces of Lang Son, Kon Tum, Phu Yen, and Binh Dinh. Data in Vinh Thanh district of Binh Dinh showed great potential, he added.
wpd aims to collect more data this year in order to submit a feasibility study to Binh Dinh authorities and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in early 2026, the executive noted.
As a result, wpd urged Binh Dinh authorities to help with adding the project to the national power development plan VIII (PDP VIII), which is being amended. The firm also suggested provincial authorities help with land and bidding procedures so the investor selection process can begin in the second quarter of 2026.
Backing the proposal, Binh Dinh Chairman Pham Anh Tuan asked relevant agencies to help wpd with administrative procedures for the project. He also highlighted Binh Dinh’s advantages for wind power development, including the strong power grid system.
Binh Dinh now has 21 power plants totaling 878.9 MW. They include 12 small hydropower plants of 347.9 MW, four wind power plants of 107.4 MW, and five solar power plants of 529.5 MWp.
The province is planned to have 175 MW of wind power, 73 MW of hydropower, 15 MW of waste-to-power energy, and 38 MW of rooftop solar power by 2030
