Gamesa installs first wind turbine in Thailand

Construction News

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa SA (BME:GAM) today said it had successfully installed its first G114-2.0 MW wind turbine in Thailand.

The turbine has been erected at the Subplu1 wind farm which is Gamesa’s first project breakthrough in the Thai market.

Under an agreement that Gamesa signed with Chinese developer PowerChina ZhongNan in July 2015, the Spanish company will supply a total of 30 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines at three wind farms.

All wind turbines are scheduled for commissioning in 2016 and Gamesa will maintain the facilities for the next 10 years.

With tower height of 125 metres, Gamesa’s G114-2.0 MWs are among the highest turbines in the Southeast Asian region.

The turbine is designed to yield more power at lower cost at low and medium wind speed sites such as those typical of Thailand, Gamesa said, adding that it has already signed orders for the supply of over 2,000 MW and has installed more than 165 MW of the model in markets as diverse as Portugal, Brazil, the US, Sweden and Italy.
