The double-track railway between Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan stations looks set to be opened next year, as most of the project’s civil engineering work has been completed, according to the State Railway of Thailand.

Ekarat Sri-arayanpong, SRT’s public relations director, said the tracks are currently undergoing testing to estimate travel times and ensure safe shunting, which has produced satisfactory results so far.

The 84-kilometre-long double-track railway is constructed parallel to the old, single track which serves the main southern line. The new tracks will pass two bridges, 12 stations, one halt and two container yards, at Sam Roi Yot and Thung Mamao stations.

The upgrade works also included improvements to existing stations in an effort to promote local tourism.
