Doosan Enerbility announced on October 1 that it has signed a contract with Vietnam’s state-run energy group PVN for the construction of the O Mon 3 gas combined cycle power plant. The contract is valued at approximately 840 billion won.
For this project, Doosan Enerbility formed a consortium with PTSC, a local energy services specialist and subsidiary of PVN, and will be responsible for the entire EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) process. Doosan Enerbility will also directly supply the core equipment for the power plant, including the steam turbine. This is the first time Doosan Enerbility’s steam turbine will be applied to a gas combined cycle power plant in Vietnam.
The O Mon 3 gas combined cycle power plant will be built within the same complex as the O Mon 4 power plant, which Doosan Enerbility won last year. It is located about 180 kilometers southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The plant will have a total generation capacity of 1,155 megawatts (MW) and is scheduled for completion in 2030. Once operational, it is expected to contribute to power grid stability in southern Vietnam.
Lee Sungyeol, Head of Plant EPC Sales at Doosan Enerbility, stated, “Following our win of the O Mon 4 project last year, securing the O Mon 3 project further proves our competitiveness in Vietnam’s gas combined cycle power generation market. Since the client PVN is planning to expand gas combined cycle power plants not only at the O Mon complex in southern Vietnam but also in central-northern Vietnam, we will actively seek to expand new orders in the Vietnamese power market based on the successful execution of the O Mon 3 and 4 projects.”
Including this latest contract, Doosan Enerbility has so far won a total of five domestic and overseas gas combined cycle power plant projects this year, totaling about 3.87 trillion won in value. Starting with the approximately 840 billion won contract for the second phase of the Saudi Jafurah cogeneration power plant project and the roughly 530 billion won Oman Duqm gas combined cycle power plant project in June, the company subsequently secured the approximately 930 billion won Oman Misfah gas combined cycle power plant project in August and the roughly 670 billion won Hadong combined cycle power plant project last month.
