Department of Rail Transport fast-tracks Bangkok’s Siriraj hospital link

The Department of Rail Transport (DRT) is fast-tracking three major infrastructure projects to improve connectivity and access to Siriraj Hospital, one of Thailand’s leading medical centres.
DRT Director-General Pichet Kunathamrak on Thursday chaired the first meeting in 2026 of the working group overseeing the construction and management of the Siriraj Station project.
The meeting focused on three key developments: the Light Red Line suburban rail extension (Taling Chan–Siriraj), the Orange Line mass transit project (Bang Khun Non–Min Buri [Suwinthawong]) and the Siriraj medical complex.
Officials reported progress on the Light Red Line extension, which will connect Siriraj with Taling Chan and Salaya. The project also includes three new stations: Rama VI Bridge, Bang Kruai–Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) and Ban Chim Phli. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is preparing to sign construction contracts.
For the Orange Line, the eastern section between Thailand Cultural Centre and Min Buri (Suwinthawong) had completed civil works and land acquisition as of March, with system installation reaching 48.7%.
On the western section, from Bang Khun Non to Thailand Cultural Centre, land acquisition is 90.3% complete, civil works 29.1% and system installation 7.8%.
