Construction of Cambodia’s Techo International Airport stands at an impressive 94 percent completion
As of January 20, 2025, the Techo International Airport was 94 percent complete in construction and is scheduled to be operational in July 2025, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).
Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the SSCA said that major construction work, such as the passenger terminal, the power supply centre, and the airport apron, were largely completed by the end of 2024, with some remaining work to be completed in January 2025.
The implementation of the operational Readiness and airport transfer of Techo International Airport is underway and the whole construction is scheduled to be completely finished in May 2025, he added.
“If nothing changes, the Techo International Airport is set to officially be inaugurated in July this year,” Chanserey Vutha said.
The Techo International Airport has been named one of the 11 most spectacular architectural creations in the world by CNN, marking a significant achievement for the nation as it forges ahead into the future of aviation.
CNN’s feature highlights not just Techo International Airport but also ten other ground-breaking architectural landmarks across the globe, including the New Sydney Fish Market in Australia, Osaka’s Grand Ring Gallery, and the Senegalese Goethe-Institut Centre, among others. These structures are set to reshape skylines and redefine urban landscapes.
The Techo International Airport is designed with remarkable capacity, allowing it to accommodate up to six times more travellers.
The Techo International Airport project has an investment capital of approximately $1,500 million from a joint investment between the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) and the Cambodian government.
The 4F-class airport has three phases: Phase 1, to be completed in 2025, can handle approximately 13 million passengers per year; Phase 2, to be completed in 2030, can handle approximately 30 million passengers per year; and the final phase, to be completed in 2050, can handle up to 50 million passengers per year.
