Cambodian Government conducting feasibility study on improvement of national railway system and modernization of high-speed railway system

The Cambodian Government is in the process of conducting a feasibility study on the development of the railway system and modernization of high-speed railway system in Cambodia.

This is according to the Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, during a remote meeting with Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport of Thailand on April 20.

The main purpose of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the public works and transportation sectors, both within the bilateral and in the regional framework.

The Senior Minister said that the connection of physical infrastructure between the two countries will not only increases the volume of trade, tourism and investment, but is also a key factor in promoting trade growth and economic development.

Senior Minister Chanthol also informed his Thai counterpart on the ongoing construction projects in Cambodia, including: the NR 5 construction project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024 and the NR 7 construction project, which is scheduled to be completed in September 2022.

The Senior Minister thanked Minister Saksayam for the financial aid that Thailand provided to Cambodia for the construction of the cross-border structure and the Cambodia-Thailand Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ean Friendship Bridge.
