B Grimm Power & Sumitomo ink 10-year power supply deal

Amata B Grimm Power Group has signed a 10-year agreement with Sumitomo Rubber (Thailand) Co to supply 40 megawatts of electricity and 28 tonnes per hour of steam to Sumitomo’s tyre factory in Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong province.

Sumitomo Rubber (Thailand) is one of the largest manufacturers of car tyres in the world, and by purchasing electricity and steam from Amata B Grimm Power, it should significantly reduce its carbon-dioxide emission by move than 133 million kilograms per year.

The signing of the agreement comes not long after B Grimm Power held a foundation-stone-laying ceremony for its Rayong 1 and Rayong 2 power plants. The co-generation combined-cycle plants, with a total generating capacity of more than 240MW, are scheduled to begin commercial operation in November and in June 2013 respectively.

Meanwhile, construction of the B Grimm Power 3 co-generation combined-cycle plant, the group’s third power plant in Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Chon Buri, is due to be completed this year, with commercial operation commencing in September.

In addition to the projects currently under development, Amata B Grimm Power plans to invest in three more power plants in Amata City Industrial Estate, as well as another seven in various industrial estates around the country.

By 2019, B Grimm Power expects be operating 16 SPP (small power producer) plants in six estates, serving more than 800 industrial customers.
