AFRY awarded owner’s engineer services assignment for Bangkok Cogeneration’s power plant project in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Thailand

Bangkok Cogeneration Company Limited (BCC) has awarded AFRY an owner’s engineer services assignment for its new 146MW BCC2 Cogeneration Plant in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, Thailand.

The project is on a greenfield site and incorporates 1 gas-fired cogeneration block, consisting of 2 gas turbine generators, 2 heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine generator and full scope of balance-of-plant equipment.

The BCC2 plant is being built under the new Small Power Producer (SPP) scheme which provides 30MW export to the grid under a Power Purchase Agreement with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (“EGAT”). The plant will also provide reliable and cost-competitive electricity, process steam and demineralised water to industrial users (IU’s) in the surrounding Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate. To provide standby security for the process steam exported there will also be an auxiliary boiler installed.

AFRY’s assignment includes assistance in project management, leading the design review and the provision of site supervision services during the major siteworks, i.e. covering the main civil and structural works, equipment installation, commissioning, performance and reliability testing through to commercial operation. The overall schedule for AFRY’s services is about 27 months.

This is a continuation of AFRY’s involvement in the same project where AFRY has provided, under separate assignments, technical assistance and advisory services to the owner during the development of the project, as well as owner’s engineering services for his GIS Substation Building & Distribution Ductbank project, which links the BCC2 project, his existing BCC1 project and the various electrical IU’s.

“We are very pleased to continue our good co-operation with Bangkok Cogeneration in executing this important project. This award further strengthens our position in the Thermal Power & Renewable Energy field in Thailand, where we have had a substantial role in the design and construction of more than 50 power plant projects and are the leading international power sector consulting engineering company in the country.” says Petteri Härkki, Regional Director, Asia, AFRY.
