Who are the farlang YouTubers producing quality videos on Bangkok and Thailand?
Most of us these days watch a bit of YouTube, don’t we. We all have our favourite subject matters and YouTube content-producers on Bangkok and Thailand. So, who are the decent ones?
Here’s a few of mine, in no particular order.
Bangkok Pat might be the most well-known of the content-producers making content on Bangkok. His content on YouTube, shares insights into the city’s history, culture, and hidden gems. I read online that he was born in London but raised in Bangkok, where he has lived since his early twenties. He’s part Brit, part Thai. Bangkok Pat’s channel focuses on exploring the city’s past, present, and future, often highlighting the unique aspects that many visitors overlook. His work has gained a significant following, as he aims to provide a deeper understanding of Bangkok’s rich tapestry of history and local life.
Worth reading is Time Out Magazine’s late 2025 article on Bangkok Pat titled ‘Bangkok’s fading history, one YouTube video at a time’
I enjoy most of Pat’s videos. His oldest video appears to be 5 years old, and while some of the videos can be a bit overlong, he’s got to be in the Top 3 of YouTubers on Bangkok matters. Even long-term expats can learn a thing or two about Bangkok from Bangkok Pat’s videos.

Karl, another Brit, arrived in Thailand as Tourist in the late 1980s, just as I arrived here then as a backpacker. He then continued to regularly visit as a tourist from the early 1990’s, which is when I moved here to work. his early days were around Koh Samui and the Bangkok bar scene as were mine, so he and I seem to have a lot in common.
Karl’s trekking videos take us off the beaten path, literally, going up and down Thailand’s hills and mountains. Some are easy going (I’ve done a few of them), some are difficult or precarious, and some are bloody bonkers! His most recent two videos detail the 116 Kilometre one-week trek he and a mate made during the ‘rainy season’ (oh Karl, what were you thinking?) in 2018, through dense jungle and mountainous terrain, in what is arguably the most remote corner of the country, trekking from Sangkhlaburi (in Kanchanaburi Province) north along the Thai-Myanmar border toward Umphang (in Tak Province) —a route known as “The Missing Link”. “There are no roads here, no 7-Elevens, and zero cell service. To drive between these two points would take a 900km detour, but we decided to do it the hard way: on foot through the dense rainforest of the Western Forest Complex”.

Recently I noticed the third youtuber in my list, as he was causing upset amongst AseanNow forum (née Thaivisa.com) readers with his video ‘Only an Idiot Would Get Married in Thailand’ (see below); well done sir for upsetting the grumpy old farlangs on that website!

Jon is yet another Brit (I think), who’s subject matters seem to be straight-talking videos explaining the ins and outs of being a farlang living in Thailand. Recent videos have been:
‘Thailand is a TERRIBLE Deal for Expats… And It’s Getting Worse’ – “Talks of Thailand: Deep Dives analyzes the evolving financial viability of living in Thailand for foreigners. By comparing historic and current cost-of-living data, inflation rates, and currency fluctuations against life in the UK, the discussion examines whether the trade-offs regarding residency, property rights, and healthcare still provide the value they once did for expatriates.”
‘The Real Reason Thailand’s Air Stays Toxic’
‘Only an Idiot Would Get Married in Thailand’ – “Long-term foreign residents in Thailand face immense bureaucratic challenges despite being married to citizens and raising families there. The legal system keeps committed spouses in a permanently temporary state, severely limiting property ownership and pathways to permanent residency.”
Jon has two Youtube channels, Talks of Thailand: Deep Dives’ and ‘Jon Canton’ , and his oldest video appears to be 1 year old.
His videos are interesting and thought provoking, and it’s fair to say that Jon is sticking his neck out by expressing his strong views on Thailand issues in public.

The great thing about YouTube is that there is something for everyone. Some viewers enjoy travel and hiking adventures, others prefer history, culture, current affairs, or the practical realities of expat life. The three channels mentioned here all bring something different to the table: Bangkok Pat offers a fascinating look at the capital’s past and present; Karl’s Thailand showcases the country’s landscapes, hidden corners and remarkable trekking routes; while Jon’s Talks of Thailand: Deep Dives tackles the issues and debates that many foreigners living in Thailand encounter. None will appeal to everyone all of the time, but all three provide thoughtful, well-produced content that rises above the endless stream of clickbait and bar-stool gossip that can dominate Thailand-related social media.
