28 Subcontractors involved in Clean Fuel Project (CFP) at Thai Oil’s refinery in Si Racha, Chon Buri, voted to suspend construction activities
Subcontractors involved in the Clean Fuel Project (CFP) at Thai Oil’s refinery in Si Racha, Chon Buri, have voted to suspend construction activities.
This decision, made by 28 companies, impacts approximately 10,000 workers.
The suspension stems from financial challenges related to unpaid wages exceeding 6 billion baht, which have remained overdue for eight months.
The primary contractor, an unincorporated joint venture of Samsung E&A (Thailand), Petrofac South East Asia, and Saipem Singapore, has not resolved the payments, leaving subcontractors unable to proceed.
Chatmongkol Khemapirat, Assistant Managing Director of Sriracha Construction, stated that the 28 subcontractors are experiencing financial strain due to outstanding debts and unclear terms for future payments. He noted that this situation has significantly affected the workforce associated with the project. Chatmongkol explained that efforts have been made through various channels, including submitting a letter to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra at Government House on November 12. The letter was received by Somkid Chuakong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, and Pol Col Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice. However, even protests demanding overdue wages have shown no progress, ultimately leading to the vote and the decision to suspend construction.
