The Transport Ministry is moving forward with Phase 2 of the dual-track railway project, worth 297 billion baht.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit announced progress on Phase 2 of Thailand’s dual-track railway expansion, covering six routes totaling 1,249 kilometers with a combined investment of 297.9 billion baht.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has submitted the project to the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) for approval, highlighting its role in boosting national transport efficiency and lowering logistics costs.

The project has been ranked by priority based on transport demand, freight volumes, route capacity, economic returns, and alignment with national strategies.

Additional factors, including passenger and freight forecasts, connectivity, and project readiness, were also considered. Top Priority Routes: – Surat Thani–Hat Yai–Songkhla (321 km) — 66.27 billion baht – Pak Nam Pho–Den Chai (218 km) — 81.14 billion baht – Chumphon–Surat Thani (168 km) — 30.42 billion baht Medium Priority: – Chira Junction–Ubon Ratchathani (308 km) — 44.1 billion baht – Den Chai–Chiang Mai (189 km) — 68.22 billion baht Lower Priority: – Hat Yai–Padang Besar (45 km) — 7.77 billion baht.

The SRT has updated passenger and freight forecasts, route capacity analyses, and submitted detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for all routes, covering infrastructure, stations, level crossings, and logistics facilities.

Plans to commercialize major stations and freight yards are also in place to boost revenue.

The project aims to shift freight transport from road to rail, cutting travel time by up to 30%, improving punctuality, reducing accidents, and enhancing Thailand’s logistics competitiveness.
