Symbior Solar Expands Into Commercial and Industrial Rooftops in Thailand and Commissions First Two PV Projects with Assyce Asia

Symbior Solar (Symbior), a regional solar PV developer with a focus on frontier solar markets in Asia, together with Assyce Asia (Assyce), a regional solar EPC and O&M provider, announces the commissioning of two commercial solar PV rooftop projects with Robinson Department Store in December 2017 with total capacity of 1.4MW in Kamphaeng Phet and Mahachai, Thailand.

In 2017 Symbior expanded its Thai solar PV development activities on the emerging commercial and industrial solar PV rooftop (C&I solar) market in the Kingdom. Building on its successful implementation of its 30MW pipeline of utility scale projects in Thailand since 2013, Symbior was awarded its first C&I project from Robinson Department Store. As of December 2017, Symbior has secured a total of over 13MW of commitments for C&I projects as well as a pipeline under development of 100MW for 2018 and 2019 in Thailand.

Assyce started in 2016 to focused on C&I self-consumption projects in Thailand and expanded this activity to other South-East Asian markets. Currently Assyce is working on a pipeline of 20MW of projects in the region. Assyce offers a highly dedicated team providing high quality design and installation at a competitive price with customized solutions and flexible business models to its customers like Symbior across the region.

“With the latest reduction in installation cost for solar PV projects, the C&I business allows the solar industry in Thailand to thrive independently of government subsidies,” said Florian Bennhold, CEO of Symbior Solar, “The recently approved net-metering policy shows that Thailand is embracing this new development for solar PV and will support the C&I segment further in 2018.”

“For C&I clients, the quality of the installation is of great importance,” said Tobias Deissler, Managing Director of Assyce Asia, “this makes Assyce with its track-record of high-efficiency plants and years of experience starting in Spain’s solar PV market in 2008 a great partner in these projects.”

“With Thailand’s head start in Solar PV and its mature supply chain the Kingdom is poised to continue to lead South-East Asia in the emerging C&I solar PV market,” said Chayasak Itthisiri, Vice President C&I Solar for Symbior. “Today, Symbior’s PV installations offer our clients immediate cost savings on their electricity bill with no required investment nor operation costs and a professionally managed power plant over the long term. This makes our offer very attractive to most commercial and industrial facility owners.”

Both Robinson projects were concluded in record time of only about two months and have been operating and delivering power since the grand opening of both Robinson stores in early December. Assyce uses duel glass modules from Canadian Solar for higher efficiency, better fire protection and improved self-cleaning effect from natural rain. Symbior is monitoring the sites remotely in real time and is working closely with the joint operation and maintenance team to guarantee the effective operation of the facilities which Symbior is vouching for to all its clients.

Symbior plans to start construction on further 5MW of C&I projects in early 2018 and continue to build its portfolio from its development pipeline of approximately 100MW in Thailand in the coming years.
