Suvarnabhumi Airport to proceed with bidding for East Expansion project in December 2024

The Airports of Thailand (AOT) has approved a new master plan for Suvarnabhumi Airport and is set to proceed with the bidding for the East Expansion project in December. AOT is fast-tracking the new master plan for Suvarnabhumi Airport to increase its capacity to 150 million passengers annually, up from 90 million.

Kirati Kijmanawat, AOT director said the South Expansion project, with a budget of 120 billion baht, is under review. The master plan is expected to be finalized by February 2025, with detailed design and feasibility studies to follow. Contractor bidding is slated for early 2027, with construction expected to complete by late 2031.

AOT also plans to build a fourth runway with a 20 billion baht investment. Design and feasibility studies will take about 10 months, with bidding and construction to start and finish within 2027, aiming for completion by 2030.

The East Expansion, costing 10 billion baht, has completed its design phase and is pending Cabinet approval. Bidding is expected to begin in December 2024. The West Expansion will follow, after updating the master plan. The North Expansion will be the final phase due to its lower urgency.
