State Railway of Thailand approves extensions and contract amendments for three sections of the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project due to delays in land delivery
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Board has approved extensions and contract amendments for three sections of the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project due to delays in land delivery:
– Contract 4-3 (Nava Nakhon-Ban Pho): Extended by 452 days to April 20, 2026.
– Contract 4-2 (Don Mueang-Nava Nakhon): Extended by 641 days to October 7, 2026, due to design changes and adjustments for oil pipeline routes.
– Contract 4-6 (Phra Kaew-Saraburi): Extended by 780 days to February 23, 2027.
According to news reports, the board also approved a review of a Cabinet resolution from July 11, 2017, which required establishing a special entity to manage the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima high-speed rail line. The revised approach proposes a public-private partnership (PPP) model for the entire Bangkok-Nong Khai route. The SRT plans to allocate 40 million baht for a feasibility study on this model, expected to take 6–8 months, with findings to be submitted to the Ministry of Transport for Cabinet consideration.
