The Srinakarin Expressway – Suvarnabhumi Airport project is expected to be completed and operational by 2030.
Following the third public consultation meeting summarizing the feasibility study, the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) announced that the finalization process will take about 3 to 4 months before seeking investment approval.
Spanning 15.8 kilometers, the project is estimated to require an investment of approximately 20.7 billion baht. This includes 19.2 billion baht for construction, 840 million baht for land acquisition, and 725 million baht for construction supervision and environmental management expenses.
The economic feasibility study indicates a net present value of 6.2 billion baht, with an internal rate of return of 14.4% and a benefit-to-cost ratio of 1.5, demonstrating strong economic viability since the return exceeds the 12% benchmark.
EXAT has engaged consulting firms to study the project twice, in October 2023 and March 2024. Recent findings have finalized construction designs, cost estimates, and development formats. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report is set for completion by 2024, with approvals sought from 2025 to 2027, land acquisition planned for 2026 to 2028, and construction anticipated from 2027 to 2030.
The route will start midway between the Bangkok-Chonburi Expressway (Highway No. 7) and the service road. It will feature a dual elevated structure with two lanes in each direction. After passing the Srinakarin interchange, the northern structure will merge with the southern one into a four-lane elevated roadway over approximately 8.9 kilometers.
The structure will diverge into two sides of the Bangkok-Chonburi Expressway near the Romklao intersection, providing access to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The main route will then descend in front of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. Three entry and exit points will be established, and the toll booths will be located at the Romklao interchange, with 8 lanes for inbound traffic and 7 lanes for outbound traffic.
