Prasarana, operator of Klang Valley’s LRT and Monorail lines, has announced that it will be providing technical support to Thai MRT operators for the development of the latter’s new Bangkok MRT Purple Line. Six drivers and five controllers from subsidiary Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd made their journeys across the border yesterday to be stationed with their Thai counterparts for a period of four months.

“The request came from Marubeni-Toshiba JV, which is the company responsible in delivering the systems for Bangkok Purple Line. Their request was for manpower support for its Site Integration Test. Four of our train drivers left for Bangkok yesterday for the purpose. We are proud and honoured to offer services to our fellow international partners especially from the ASEAN member countries. In ASEAN, we are part of a big family,” said Rapid Rail CEO Ahmad Nizam Mohd Amin.

Besides the above, Prasarana also recently formalised a collaboration with MRT Jakarta, where Rapid Rail will share its experience in the planning and operations of urban rail lines with the latter. The company also successfully spearheaded the operations of the Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Makkah Metro Southern Line for this year’s haj operations, its first international assignment.

The Bangkok MRT Purple Line is currently under construction and is due for completion before the end of 2016. Serving commuters in the Bangkok Metropolitan Region and Nonthaburi Province, it will become the second MRT-operated line there and the city’s fifth rapid transit line.
