Pran Buri–Songkhla Motorway Planned as Next Southern Transport Project

The Transport Ministry plans to develop a motorway from Pran Buri to Songkhla before extending the route towards Narathiwat, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said on Tuesday.
The plan would designate the right-hand lanes in both directions as motorway lanes and add two lanes on each side of the existing road.
The ministry is also developing the N8 highway from Nakhon Pathom to Cha-am as an alternative route parallel to Phetkasem Road. It will run through Khao Yoi and Kaeng Krachan before reconnecting at Pran Buri.
The announcement followed Cabinet approval of three southern double-track railway projects. Design work for the Hat Yai–Su-ngai Kolok section is due to be completed in January, followed by an environmental impact assessment. A 25-kilometre trial section of the M82 motorway between Ekkachai and Ban Phaeo opened on August 28.
