Plan for new B6bn new road to connect Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road with Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi Motorway to ease traffic
The Department of Highways is planning to build a new road to connect Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road with Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi Motorway, hoping it will help ease traffic on these two roads and support urbanisation in the surrounding areas.
The new six-lane access road will stretch about 6.5 kilometres and run through four districts in Nonthaburi and into Nakhon Pathom, said Sarawut Songsivilai, director-general of the department.
The budget required is around 6.12 billion baht, he said. Of the 6.12 billion baht, 4.31 billion baht will go into building the road and the rest financing the expropriation of around 352 plots of land with a total area of 355 rai, he said.
Some 347 plots are in Bang Yai, Bang Kruai and Bang Bua Thong districts of Nonthaburi, while the other five plots are in Buddha Monthon district of Nakhon Pathom, he said, adding that about 71 houses also need to be expropriated.
The department has completed a site survey — part of a study into the feasibility of building this new road to serve as an access point between Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road, also known as Highway No. 3310, and the Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi Motorway, also known as Motorway No.81.
Now that details of the project have been drafted, the next step is to submit them along with an environmental impact assessment (EIA) application, which is expected to win approval sometime later this year, he said.
After the EIA application is approved, the land expropriation process should begin next year and finish no later than 2026, while construction should begin in 2027, he said.
Construction is expected to take around three years to complete, meaning the new road will be opened in 2030, he said.
The road will be built from part of Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road where it is connected with Highway No.4006, better known as the Salaya Clock Tower, and will then span southward across the southern railway and Maha Sawat and Nara Phirom canals, he said.
After that, the new road will run across Highway No.1011, a section of the new road to connect Nakhon In Road with Salaya Road, Highway No.5014, Bang Yai canal, and Highway No.1009, he said.
The new road will end where it meets the Motorway No. 81, he said.
