The Cabinet has approved the building of the Patong Tunnel. Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) assured it will be finished within 5 years.
Mr.Aiyanut Tinapai, governor of EXAT, revealed Ministry of Transport has assigned EXAT to work on the tunnel design. EXAT is now going to inspect the area and discuss with construction advisors. The process might take about 1 or 2 years. It’s going to be a 4-lane tunnel 3 km in length. Total budget EXAT has calculated is about 6,000 million Baht.
Mr.Aiyanat also added a fee will be charged once the tunnel is open. However, this will be cheaper than toll road fees in Bangkok because EXAT wants more people to use it in order to reduce the amount of traffic in Phuket.
