New 34.1-kilometre motorway connecting Bang Bua Thong in Nonthaburi and Bang Pa-in in Ayutthaya slated to open by 2029

The Department of Highways (DoH) is planning to have a new 34.1-kilometre motorway connecting Bang Bua Thong in Nonthaburi and Bang Pa-in in Ayutthaya, costing almost 15 billion baht, built by 2029.

According to DoH director-general Sarawut Songsivilai, this motorway is one of 46 projects set to begin in the next two years. The Motorway No 9 (M9) project is expected to be a key project for the 2024 Nation Strategy, which the committee approved in September.

This project is now past the design and costing stages and requires no expropriation, said Mr Sarawut. He said it was more like a renovation of the existing infrastructure.

Divided into two parts, the first stretch begins in Bang Bua Thong and winds up in Lat Lum Kaeo in Pathum Thani. The distance is 13.5km and the budget will be about 4.3 billion baht, Mr Sarawut said.

For the second part from Lat Lum Kaeo to Bang Pa-in, the distance will be 20.6km and the budget will be 10.4 billion baht.

The road should be operational five years after work starts, said Mr Sarawut.
