Modern Energy Management to take part in 130-MWp PV project in Myanmar
4 September 2018
Thailand-based renewable energy consultancy Modern Energy Management (MEM) has joined hands with an unnamed partner to develop a 130-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Myanmar.
The consultancy, which focuses on projects in emerging markets, said on Thursday it has been engaged by the particular investor and will share the development risk of the project. The companies expect to bring the proposed solar park online in the last quarter of next year.
MEM said it has already aided its partner in identifying a suitable location for the project and is carrying out a de-risking process for the project investors. It did not provide further details about the scheme in its statement.
The solar farm project will contribute to Myanmar’s plans to generate 2% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020 and 9% by 2030. At present, the country has no operating wind or solar parks.
A competitive bidding process is currently ongoing for the supply, installation and maintenance of PV systems at 13,000 homes and public buildings in Southern Shan State. Green Earth Power (Thailand) Co Ltd, or GEP Thailand, is meanwhile working on a 170-MW solar project in Minbu City, it was announced in May.
