Marubeni Thailand and Thai sugar producer Mitr Phol to pursue biofuel and renewable energy projects in Thailand

Japan’s Marubeni Corp (TYO:8002) on Monday said it will partner will Thai sugar producer Mitr Phol Sugar Corp Ltd to jointly make bio plastic products, produce bioethanol and develop renewable energy projects in Thailand.

Through its Thai unit Marubeni Thailand Co Ltd, the Japanese trading house has sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitr Phol.

Under the pact, the two companies intend to work on unspecified initiatives “to develop and introduce renewable energy” and produce bioethanol from fermented organic products such as sugarcane. Additionally, they will develop raw materials for the production and sale of biodegradable wrapping, packaging and food container products and make bio-based plastic from organic resources.

Marubeni and Mitr Phol said the partnership seeks to lower the use of fossil fuel-based plastics and introduce renewable energy.
