Concrete Canvas (CC) is part of a revolutionary new class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM’s). It is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer. Essentially, it’s concrete on a roll!
CC offers a unique combination of material properties. It exhibits the performance and characteristics of concrete (hard, durable, strong) whilst being as easy to install as a geotextile. As a result it is more durable than geo-membranes and vegetation mats and faster and easier to install than concrete and hard armour solutions. The main benefits when compared against conventional concrete solutions are:
- Rapid Install – CC is typically 10 times faster to install than conventional concrete
- Easy to use – CC vastly reduces the requirement for plant, both on site and in transit. A single pallet of the medium weight CC8 (125sqm) can cover the same surface area as two 18T concrete mixer trucks. CC can be installed with minimum training. CC layers can be cut to length using basic hand tools and the concrete is pre-mixed so there is no need for mixing, measuring or compacting. CC can also be installed in the rain or underwater.
- Low Project Costs – The speed and ease of installation mean CC is often more cost-effective per sqm installed than conventional concrete, with less logistical burden – labour, plant equipment and transport.
- Eco-friendly – CC is a low mass, low carbon technology which uses up to 95% less material than conventional concrete for most surfacing applications. CC has a low alkaline reserve, low wash-out and has been approved for use by the UK Environment Agency on multiple projects.
