The government has signed construction contracts worth 6.7 billion baht for two bridges in the South to improve transport, tourism and local economies.
The 4.8-billion-baht Songkhla Lake bridge, linking Songkhla and Phatthalung, will be built by CMC Joint Venture, comprising CHEC Construction (M) Sdn Bhd and Chiang Rai Land Associates.
CHEC Construction will also build the 1.85-billion-baht bridge connecting Koh Klang and Koh Lanta Noi in Krabi.
The projects will be financed through a 70% World Bank loan and 30% from the state budget. Construction is expected to take about three years.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said strict environmental safeguards would be imposed, particularly around Songkhla Lake, which is home to endangered Irrawaddy dolphins.
