Construction on Bangkok’s Rama 2 Road, ongoing since 1970, completion before the end of 2025
The Ministry of Transport insisted that construction on Rama 2 Road, ongoing since 1970, will be completed before the end of 2025.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit outlined three major projects remaining on the road:
– Expressway Project: Connecting Rama 3, Dao Khanong, and the Outer Ring Road (sections 1-4), 70-89% complete, expected to be operational by June 2025. The Thotsamarachan Bridge, parallel to the Rama IX Bridge, is finished and set to open by the end of 2024.
– Elevated Highway No. 35: Extending from Bang Khun Thian to Ekkachai Interchange (sections 1-3), 94-97% complete, with full completion expected in November 2024.
The stretch between Phanthai Norasing and Mahachai Checkpoints will be partially operational by the end of 2024. The connection to the expressway project is still under construction.
– Motorway M82: Running from Bang Khun Thian to Ban Phaeo (sections 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, and 10), 41-83% complete, expected to be fully completed by June 2025 and fully operational by 2027. The interchange project in Ban Phaeo, Samut Sakhon, is 62% complete and should be finished by June 2025.
Suriya emphasized that all preparations are in place, including plans, equipment, and personnel.
With 11 months remaining, all projects on Rama 2Road are on track to be completed by June 2025, he added.
