Ch Karnchang gets Phase 2 of Bearing-Samut Prakan route

Construction News

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has contracted Ch Karnchang for construction of the second phase of Green Line route between Bearing and Samut Prakan, worth about Bt2.4 billion.

MRTA chairman Ratchanee Treepipatkul said the contract would involve design and construction of the rail system, the third rail powering the electric train, and the maintenance centre. The construction will require 1,350 days. The elevated route will be 13 kilometres in length and include nine stations.

The first phase of the project began at the beginning of last year, and included the relocation of public utilities and foundation pile-driving, and the grading of the site for the maintenance centre. Construction was 8.21 per cent complete as of March 31 this year.

The whole project is scheduled to be ready for service by 2017.

Plew Trivisvavet, chief executive officer of Ch Karnchang, said the company would this month also sign a contract to construct the rail system for the MRTA’s Purple Line from Bang Yai to Bang Sue worth Bt25 billion.

Tenders in June

Ratchanee said the MRTA would call tenders for the Green Line Mor Chit-Saphan Mai-Kukot route by the end of June. The project has been proposed to the Transport Ministry. The authority will also propose the Pink Line Karai-Min Buri route, which will be opened for bids by the third quarter of this year.

The Orange Line Taling Chan-Min Buri route will be opened for the bids by the end of the year
