Cabinet approves the Thai-Cambodia railway bridge

Cambodia Construction News

BANGKOK, 30 October 2014 (NNT) – The cabinet has approved a plan for a Thai-Cambodia railway bridge to achieve Southern Economic Corridor connectivity.

In the meeting today, the cabinet approved in principle the construction of the Thai-Cambodia railway bridge as proposed by the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

The MOT had proposed to the cabinet that Thailand commit to the construction of the Aranya Prathet – Khlong Leuk Bridge railway crossing and the Thai-Cambodia railway bridge, as the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia is developing and to facilitate the operations of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

The MOT, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) are now appointed to specify the practical framework and to seek cooperation with Cambodia to reduce any obstacles to working in the border area, as well as considering the maintenance cost of the bridge.

The new bridge will help complete the transportation network of the Southern Economic Corridor, which will facilitate trade, investment, tourism, and passenger transport. A delay in this project would affect the Master Plan for ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC).
