Bidding documents for EGAT’s Vajiralongkorn Dam Floating Solar Project now available until June 20, 2025
EGAT is pushing ahead with the development of 50-MWac floating solar project at Vajiralongkorn Dam, Kanchanaburi Province. For those interested in fostering clean energy for the future, the bidding documents are now available for purchase until June 20, 2025, at https://www4.egat.co.th/fprocurement/biddingeng/main/3644.
Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, Deputy Governor – Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that EGAT is accelerating the development of Vajiralongkorn Dam Floating Solar Project 1, in Kanchanaburi Province. With a capacity of 50 MWac, the project will generate electrical power from floating solar panels installed on the dam’s reservoir. It is part of implementations to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Net Zero Emissions by 2065, through a concrete carbon offset and avoidance mechanism. The project is scheduled to start its commercial operation in 2027.
The Vajiralongkorn Dam Floating Solar Project 1 is one of EGAT’s clean energy initiatives to develop floating solar power plants on EGAT’s dam reservoir surfaces across the country, under Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2018-2037 Revision 1, (PDP2018 Revision 1) and the new draft PDP, with a total generating capacity of 2,725 MW by 2030. The key principle of these projects is to increase the share of clean energy, optimizing the existing resources for the utmost benefit by installing solar panels on the water surface of EGAT’s dams and using the existing main equipment with existing hydropower plants, resulting in lower generation cost, reasonable electricity cost, and environmental and social friendliness.
