The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has signed deals with ABB, for the supply of a high-voltage power transformer and improvement of the transmission grid in the East.
The deals are worth Bt819.6 million.The 500-kilovolt transformer will support the transmission of electricity from two hydropower projects in Laos – Nam Ngum 3 and Nam Theun 1.
Thailand has signed the memorandum of understanding to purchase 5,000 megawatts of electricity from Laos.
EGAT Governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate said that more power requires new transformers and power stations. Two more high-voltage stations will be located in Udon Thani and Chaiyaphum.
