Ho Chi Minh City administration has sought permission from the central government to build a suspended bridge that will make it easier to travel to neighbouring industrial hub Dong Nai, according to Thanh Nien News Online on Thursday.
The 4-km suspended bridge across the Dong Na river that will link HCM’s district two and Dong Nai’s Nhon Trach district will cost an estimated VND5.7 trillion (US$255.6 million) which will be invested by a construction company.
Of the total cost, one-fifth will be for site clearance and compensation and the project has already received the greenlight form Dong Nai local government.
Although ferry boat service between HCM and Dong Nai remains a popular mode of transportation, the new bridge will give travelers a new option. The boats serve more than 45,000 vehicles daily and the number can double during holidays.
An expressway is available, but many travelers prefer the ferry service.
