Bangkok’s Mass Rapid Transit Authority picks winning bids for Red Line

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) has selected the winning bids for two major construction contracts under the Red Line commuter rail expansion project, says a source in the MRTA.
The bids were submitted via the e-bidding system on Dec 29.
The contracts relate to the Dark Red Line extension from Rangsit to Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus in Pathum Thani, and the Light Red Line extension covering the Siriraj–Taling Chan–Salaya section. The Light Red Line project includes three new stations: Rama VI, Bang Kruai–Egat, and Baan Chim Phli.
Unique Engineering and Construction Plc (Uniq) won the Dark Red Line contract with the lowest bid of 6.057 billion baht, about seven million baht below the median estimated cost of 6.064 billion baht.
Meanwhile, UT — a joint venture between Uniq and Trusty Construction Co Ltd — secured the Light Red Line extension with a bid of 14.72 billion baht, some nine million baht lower than the median estimate of 14.729 billion baht.
With the bidding process concluded, MRTA will now conduct background checks on the winning bidders and enter into price negotiations before announcing the results. The contracts are expected to be finalised next month, the source said.
The Dark Red Line Rangsit–Thammasat University section spans 8.84 kilometres and will be built entirely at ground level. The Light Red Line expansion will consolidate previously planned sections into a single contract covering the entire 20.5-kilometre route.
Construction of both projects is expected to take 36 months, with completion targeted for February 2029 ahead of a planned opening in March 2029.
