Distinguished tourism family announces sale of rare deep water marina site in Phuket

Potential to host up to 200 berths as yachting tourism booms in Thailand

The distinguished Na-Ranong family, one of Phuket’s most respected families in the tourism sector, has announced the sale of a prime marina site in Phuket. One of the last remaining offerings of its kind, the site lends itself to development of a world-class deep-water marina, along with adjacent land for extensive housing, leisure and shopping facilities.

With capacity to house up to 200 yachts, the site presents a rare investment opportunity at a time when Thailand’s yachting tourism industry is experiencing unprecedented growth. The island’s reputation as Southeast Asia’s leading yachting destination, combined with rising demand for luxury travel experiences, makes the development of new marina infrastructure a compelling proposition.

“Phuket is now firmly on the map as a world-class yachting hub,” said Krystal Prakaikaew Na-Ranong, owner of The Slate Phuket. “We are seeing a surge of interest from high-net-worth travellers who are drawn to Thailand’s natural beauty, warm hospitality, and unrivalled cruising grounds. This deep-water site offers an extraordinary chance for visionary investors to create something truly iconic and contribute to the growth of an industry that is becoming central to the island’s future.”

Yachting tourism in Thailand has grown steadily over the past decade, with the Asia Pacific superyacht market forecast to expand significantly as travellers seek unique and immersive experiences. Phuket, with its sheltered waters, access to the Andaman Sea, and reputation as a nautical gateway, is well-placed to capture this demand. The potential development of a marina of this scale would further cement the island’s reputation as a luxury hub for the yachting community.

Krystal and her family have played a defining role in shaping Phuket’s tourism and hospitality landscape for decades. Her father, Wichit Na-Ranong, is credited for putting the island on the global map after bringing the team from The Man With the Golden Gun to Phuket to film the iconic James Bond movie in the 1970s. Their ventures, including the award-winning design resort The Slate Phuket, have consistently combined innovation, creativity, and respect for the island’s heritage. The decision to release this rare site underscores the family’s ongoing commitment to contributing to the region’s economic development, while embracing new opportunities for international investment.

“We have always been passionate about Phuket’s future,” said Krystal. “By making this unique site available, we are opening the door for the next chapter in the island’s tourism evolution. Yachting is no longer a niche pursuit and is becoming one of the most desirable ways to discover Thailand. With the right vision, this marina could become a landmark destination for generations to come.”

The Thai Government is currently prioritising marina and cruise liner port projects to enhance the country’s role as a regional marine tourism hub. Further, the site comes with an existing Marine Operating License in place,  which means compliance with international safety and environmental standards has already been achieved, which will fast-track any development.

Phuket Governor, Sophon Suwannarat has applauded the proposition already, saying: “Phuket is fast becoming the boating capital of Asia, and we welcome the development of this marina site, which will not only attract more high-spending international tourists, but will considerably enhance Phuket’s economic growth.

“There is a real need for marina capacity in Phuket to grow and we applaud this development opportunity, which will significantly enhance Thailand’s nautical tourism credentials.”

The site is available as a long-term lease project or for sale to the right buyer, with the opportunity to play a part in shaping the future of the island.

Tourism numbers to Phuket are set to double by 2030 and marina developments will lead the way in delivering strong economic benefits, because they attract high net worth individuals from around the world.

The site boasts a prime waterfront location less than half an hour from Phuket Old Town spans 60,800 square metres. Another plot of over 78,000 square metres provides the chance to build luxurious waterfront residences in addition to a marina, clubhouse and dry dock facilities.

“The potential for uses for this site are limited only by the vision of the buyer and we would be open to working with them to ensure the success of the project,” said Krystal. “This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help shape the future of Phuket and provide new opportunities for tourism and economic growth.”
