Thailand Board of Investment approves two more large data center projects

One of the facilities will be built by Google parent company Alphabet

The Thai Board of Investment has approved two major data center projects in Thailand.

The projects will see a total investment of 60 billion baht ($1.78bn) to meet the growing demand for cloud services in the region, as reported by Thailand Business News.

The first project, valued at 32 billion baht ($950m), will be built by Quartz Computing, an affiliate of Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc, and is scheduled for completion by 2026.

Chinese tech firm GDS subsidiary Digitalland Services will build the second data center, valued at 28 billion baht ($831m).

Both projects will be located in the Chonburi province of Thailand, though further details have not yet been provided.

Earlier this year, the Thailand Board of Investment also approved $291 million of investment for the data center industry.

In September, Google announced plans to spend $1 billion on cloud and data infrastructure in Thailand. Amazon Web Services plans to launch a cloud region in Thailand in early 2025 and invest $5 billion by 2037.

Microsoft also plans to build a data center region in the country

According to Datacenter Map, Chonburi is currently home to Supernap and TCCT Amata data centers.
