French conglomerate Alstom will install seven gas-insulated substation (GIS) bays for the Vibhavadi extension project in southern Thailand.

Under the €4m contract, the company will provide services to Sri U Thong, while the end customer is Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), an energy distributor serving Bangkok area.

Alstom will supply and supervise the installation of five 230kV, one 115kV and one 69kV GIS bays for the project, which connect the existing substation to two 300MVA transformers installed at Vibhavadi site.

The company’s local services team will install the bays, which are due to be commissioned in April 2014. The extension project is expected to meet growing electricity demand in the Vibhavadi area.

Alstom Grid’s Service business unit VP Jan Masschelin stated that the latest award demonstrates the firm’s expertise in both legacy equipment and new solutions.

“We are committed to providing the most efficient, economic and sustainable services to maximise the life of our customers’ assets,” Masschelin added.
