Thailand’s Construction Worker camps closed for 30-days to be checked before lockdown easing on 02 August 2021
Construction Worker camp in Nakhon Ratchasima ordered sealed off for one month after 90 workers found to have Covid-19
Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin said yesterday the lockdown easing on Aug 2 may not see all construction camps open in Bangkok.
The reason why is that government officials need to inspect vaccination records and the sanitation of each camp before they can be reopened, Mr Suchart said.
However, he said the workers had the right to receive compensation of 50% of their wages during the closure.
Construction camps were subjected to a 30-day closure order from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and the lockdown lifting was to be on Aug 2.
Mr Suchart said the Labour Ministry has overseen vaccinations for over 20,000 construction workers from 200 construction sites at the Bangkok Youth Centre (Thai-Japan) and Lumphini Tower.
According to the CCSA, there are 575 large construction sites in Bangkok which employ 83,375 Thai and migrant workers while there are 600 other small and medium sites.
Meanwhile, a construction camp in the Nava Nakorn Industrial Promotion Zone in Sung Noen district of Nakhon Ratchasima has been ordered sealed off for one month after 90 workers there were found to have Covid-19.
Suthiporn Chanthavanich, chief executive of Nava Nakorn Plc, owner of the industrial zone, on Monday sent the closure order to BSY Construction Co, which is building a factory there.
The order cited the result of active case-finding by provincial disease control officials at the camp on July 25, when 90 workers were found infected with Covid-19. The infected workers had been transferred for treatment.
