Thailand seeks developers for 158-MW floating solar project in Tak Province

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is inviting bids for the delivery of a 158-MWac floating solar project at the Bhumibol Dam Hydropower Plant in Tak Province.

EGAT will be selling bidding documents for the project till April 18, 2025, it said on Monday. The sealed bids will be opened on July 14, 2025.

The Bhumibol Dam Floating Solar Project 1 at the 779-MW Bhumibol hydropower plant is slated to start commercial operation by 2027. EGAT said it is part of efforts towards carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065.

More floating solar projects are planned to be developed at EGAT dams with a total generating capacity of 2,725 MW by 2030. The aim is to increase clean energy generation, while making use of existing infrastructure.

According to the Notice to Bidder announcement, the project is financed by EGAT’s fund. The medium cost indicated is around THВ 4 billion (USD 118m/EUR 109m).
