Thailand Riviera Road’ with a budget of 8.4 billion baht, spanning 950 kilometers across 12 provinces from Samut Prakan to Narathiwat
The Department of Rural Roads has unveiled a development plan for the ‘Thailand Riviera Road’ with a budget of 8.4 billion baht, spanning 950 kilometers across 12 provinces from Samut Prakan to Narathiwat. Some sections are already completed and open for service.
Montri Dechasakulsom, director-general of the Rural Roads Department, noted that the road will pass through provinces including Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, and Narathiwat.
The project is divided into four phases.
Phase 1, from Samut Sakhon to Phetchaburi, Ranong, and Chumphon, is completed and operational, covering 515 kilometers. Currently, the Thailand Riviera road network has seen a traffic increase of 111% from 2017 to 2024 in Phase 1.
Phase 2 will extend 150 kilometers through Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Songkhla, with feasibility studies, design surveys, and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) underway.
Phase 3 covers 85 kilometers from Samut Prakan to Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram, with a budget of 4 billion baht. Feasibility studies and EIA preparations are also in progress for this phase.
Phase 4 spans 200 kilometers from Songkhla to Pattani and Narathiwat, with a completed feasibility study costing 33 million baht for fiscal years 2025-2026. This phase aims to enhance transportation, trade, tourism, and investment in the southern border provinces.
Additionally, the department plans to develop the Tanaosri Kiripat Road, extending 350 kilometers with a budget of 3 billion baht to connect Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The design survey and EIA report are complete, with construction preparations underway.
In 2025, the department will pilot two routes of the Tanaosri Kiripat Road: 1) a scenic road from the Chai Phat intersection to Highway 3218 and Highway 4 in Hua Hin and Pran Buri, covering 44.5 kilometers with a budget of 700 million baht, and 2) a scenic road from Khao Bandai to Phunam Ron in Nong Ya Plong and Khao Yoi, covering 37.2 kilometers with a budget of 720 million baht
