Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway feasibility study completed
The China Road and Bridge and Corporation (CRBC) has finalized the feasibility study for the proposed Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway and is now compiling a comprehensive report to submit to the Cambodian government for review and evaluation.
Cambodia’s third expressway project starts at Win-Win Boulevard, north of Phnom Penh and ends at Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, which shares a border with Thailand, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) said in a statement yesterday.
The project is divided into two phases with the first phase starting from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap stretching over 249 km with a budget of $2.5 billion. The Siem Reap to Poipet second phase has a length of 151 km and an estimated cost of $1.7 billion.
The construction company has completed the traffic volume survey, hydrological survey, geotechnical survey, topographical survey, and cultural relics and nature reserves survey.
Currently, the company is preparing the report which will be submitted to the government for review soon, the ministry said.
The crucial step marks a significant milestone in the development of the expressway project which aims to enhance connectivity and boost economic growth in the region, said the ministry’s spokesman Phan Rim.
“The Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway Project is a large one and reflects the strong will of the government to improve traffic conditions, transportation of goods and logistics to Cambodia’s major tourist sites and the Cambodia-Thailand border,” he said.
All three expressway projects in Cambodia including the Phnom Penh-Sihanouk Expressway, which is already operational, are undertaken by CRBC.
For the first expressway from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, CRBC has invested about $2 billion.
The second expressway from Phnom Penh to Bavet in Svay Rieng province, which shares a border with Vietnam, is now under construction. The company has invested about $1.7 billion in this project.
