Over 1,000 Middle East flights to Thailand cancelled amid oil price surge
More than 1,000 flights from Middle Eastern airlines to Thailand have been cancelled since February 28, as regional conflict and rising fuel costs disrupt air travel.
Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI) said the cancellations account for about 3% of total flights, with the impact clearly seen across Thai airspace.
Suvarnabhumi Airport recorded over 600 cancellations, while Phuket saw more than 400.
Other affected airports include Krabi, Chiang Mai and Don Mueang.
Authorities said the conflict has forced route adjustments and raised global oil prices, prompting airlines to increase fares to offset higher fuel costs.
Despite the disruption, Thailand’s aviation sector is still expected to grow in 2026, though at a slower pace, with flight volumes projected to rise by no more than 3% year-on-year, depending on how the situation develops.
AEROTHAI said it is closely monitoring the situation and preparing to manage changes in flight routes, airspace use and traffic levels.
